Working with you to help you release your unease and come home to your perfect, free flowing self.

As we are buffeted from all sides in our busy 21st century lives it’s easy to lose track of who we are or where we’re going and it’s a common error to miss the signals that the body is giving us to change direction, slow down or simply stop and rest.

That is until the signs become so unbearably loud that one is compelled to listen

Gareth uses healing modalities that help trigger your body’s own healing responses and call upon your own inner wisdom to help you return to your natural state of ease and gentle equilibrium.

Find out more about the healing modalities we work with:

Bowen therapy

The Bowen Technique is a recognised hands-on complementary therapy, which many turn to for significant relief from troubling aches and pains to address both recent and long-standing issues, where clients tell us ‘they have tried everything else’.

It is believed that Bowen enables the body to recognise where change is needed, assists the natural healing process and helps you to relax … thus releasing muscular tension, improving posture, flexibility and helping to reduce your pain. We believe Bowen Therapy is suitable for everyone. There is no vigorous manipulation, which makes it kind to those who are sensitive to pressure and it has an excellent track record in helping people with a wide variety of symptoms including:

Back Pain: Cerebral Palsy, Parkinson’s & Stroke: Digestion & Allergies: Headache, Migraine & Sinus: Knees, Feet & Ankle Issues: Fertility, Babies & Children: Neck & Shoulder Restrictions: Sport Injuries & Performance: Stress, Anxiety, Depression & Low Energy.

Flower essences

Flower Essences offer a unique tool that help us both deeply ground ourselves and open to the expansiveness of spirit. They are a wonderful gentle tonic that can support us in all aspects of life and are a perfect addition to the Bowen Technique.

We use the LightBringer essences; pristine wild flower, gem and environmental essences lovingly made by hand in the Lake District, England. The core essences in the range are made without harming or cutting the plants in any way, harnessing the living energy of the flower through a process of sacred ceremony. This has made it possible to work with rare and unusual plants, drawing on their unique energies to support our own more rare and endangered human qualities in these times.

The LightBringer Essences are both deeply grounding and spiritually expansive – we cannot touch the heights of spiritually if we are are not first profoundly rooted. They touch our being gently, reminding us that our true purpose is to shine our inner light for self and others, from a place of deep presence and stability.

Sound medicine

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1.1

For millennia, healing through Sound has been a part of the human condition. From the orthodox religions to their spiritual expressions, sound as a healing balm is as fundamental a part of our cultural identity a mother singing lullabies to calm her children.

It is different to music aesthetic in that it matters not whether you ‘like’ it; the sound waves created with particular instruments actually change our brain waves, actively shifting us from a state of ‘awake-ness’ to that of deep relaxation or ‘consciousness’.

Sound medicine is so much more than a way to unwind, however being able to relax is the cornerstone of recovery from anxiety and stress, arguably the main factors in any form of unease/disease in our minds and bodies.

Sometimes we all get stuck and need a little guidance, maybe it’s a physical therapy, maybe emotional support or spiritual guidance; often it’s a little bit of all three.

“…and ultimately to profound gratitude for the heart stopping beauty that is the world we live in today”.

Gareth’s journey into the holistic paradigm
In the Beginning there was Bowen...

Gareth discovered the world of holistic medicine, like many of us, through necessity. With achilles tendinitis and plantar fasciitis among his favourite complaints. He had a knack of finding physical strains and injuries that take a long time to heal, and being a stereotypical ‘burn the candle at both ends’ musician, self-care was not on the top of his list

Bowen Therapy

Among his many passtimes he was an endurance mountain runner & distance swimmer and needed support to counter balance the many mountain & lake miles he accrued. Bowen therapy was recommended by a family friend and after experiencing the speedy efficacy of the treatment he was a convert; appealing to both his physical self and his cultural heritage (he’s from Yorkshire, they don’t like spending).

His therapist, Nicola Hok soon became his teacher and his journey into the holistic paradigm had begun. Qualifying in 2012, Gareth had a thirst for knowledge and wanted to deepen his understanding of this fabulous and seemingly counter-intuitive body work, training with leaders and visionaries in the field such as John Wilks and Alasdair McLaughlin and his experience in mountain running led him to be invited to be field-physio for various high profile international mountain running events.

The Flower Essences followed...

Flower Essences

As his clinic progressed, Gareth learned of the power of the mind and its role in the success of a treatment. His search for complementary modalities and philosophies brought him to the world of Flower Essences. Many of you will already know of rescue remedy, some of you will know of the whole Bach Flower Essence range but many don’t realise there is a whole world of essences out there, each unique and potent in its own perfect way (like people).

The role essences play in life and recovery from trauma is best described thus; a gentle guiding hand easing you back to your centre point. Imagine your life is like a hurricane and how we get thrust from pillar to post, completely caught up in the hustle and bustle of it all. The essences don’t stop the hurricane of life but they do return you to the eye of the storm so that you can move forward with clarity, grace and flow with peace of mind, heart & soul.

Integrating Music & Sound to the wellbeing vision...

Sound Medicine

For several years Gareth has been based at Atlantis Spiritual Centre, Crews Hill. Learning Tarot with Lynn Saunders and developing his own Crystal Tarot, exploring Shamanic work with Lez Fuller and eventually, (things coming full circle as they do) he managed to bring music (his first love) into his therapeutic practice. As the ‘resident artist’ at Atlantis one would often find him bimbling around playing his harp, often accompanying Lynn’s meditation classes or guesting as part of Lez Fuller’s Shamanic circles.

It was at Atlantis Gareth met his life partner, Laura (International opera singer and holistic therapist). Together they created Mr & Mrs Brilliant, a partnership that brings together world class musicianship and deep spiritual practice. Their SoundWave events became synonymous with profound transformational experience. Invitations came from up and down the land from super star celebrity to Gareth’s mother’s front room. Their work is ongoing, so if you’re lucky enough to be invited to a Brilliant SoundWave; go, just go.

The Holistic Healers Foundation Training...

Covid 19 and the global pause created a new opportunity for us all to deepen our practice and connect with those we love and things we do in new and refreshing ways. Gareth was invited to attend a pioneering new course;

The Holistic Healer Foundation Training

Described as an ‘unlearning’ of the western paradigm of health. It’s premise is that even in the world of holistic practice both client and practitioner can slip into the allopathic (western medicine) way of thinking. That is that symptoms are to be relieved, viruses to be vaccinated against and bacteria to be anti-biotic-ed. Yet for all its wizardry allopathy rarely offers wellness and what it gives with one hand it takes away with the other. We’ve all heard the story about the patient taking one pill for the complaint, another to counter the side effect of the drug, another to balance the body from the last medication and so on. It is quite strange but we seem to be living longer and sicker each year.

We live in a health paradigm that is invested in disease at its very core. If you are well, its relevance diminishes, thriving only when you  are sick.

The Holistic Healer Foundation Training presents a real and pertinent question, “Is there another way?”

Gareth believes there is.

This moment now

Bringing it all together...

The modalities that Gareth works with do not project a healing ideology onto you or your body but instead spark the body’s own healing responses, helping you reclaim your own deep knowing and with it your body sovereignty and profound sense of wellbeing.

Consciousness is not some hierarchical system of attainment, it’s more an ever expanding energy that brings things we couldn’t see and can’t bear to see into our embrace. Moving us from disease, to unease and ultimately back to ease of flow.

All that is left is profound gratitude to the heart stopping beauty that is the world we live in today.

Bowen Therapy: Post treatment advice

The Do’s and Don’ts for Bowen Therapy, post treatment. Please observe the following:

On the day of treatment

Please don’t sit for longer than half an hour at a time.
This does not mean you have to spend all day standing up. If you stand and walk around the chair you were sitting on, and then sit down again, that is sufficient. Please don’t forget this if you are in a car.

After or in between treatments

Drink plenty of water – little and often is best.

Do plenty of walking – at least 15 minutes a day.

Practise any exercise you may have been set.

Avoid the following (preferably for 1 week after treatment):
Sitting with your legs crossed.
Hot-water bottles/packs of frozen peas/ice packs etc…
Electric blankets.
Deep-heat rubs.
Long, hot baths – a warm bath for no longer than 10 minutes is ok
Hot, hard, showers – a power shower is out of the question. A gentle flow, not too hot is ok.

If the jaw has been worked on

If the jaw has been worked on, you should avoid yawning. Please keep your teeth together or support your lower jaw with your hand if you feel a yawn coming on. Fruit/food which requires a wide jaw movement (like apples) should be avoided or cut up. You should also avoid hard food such as nuts and very chewy foods like toffees. However, it’s a good excuse not to go to the dentist between treatments!

Experiencing uncomfortable effects?

You may feel stiff and achy after the treatment for a couple of days. Do not panic. This is normal and is your body trying to correct itself. If you are in a lot of pain please do not rub the area, but take a painkiller, Arnica or Rescue remedy if necessary. As Bowen works on the physical, emotional and mental levels and some people have an emotional response to the treatment.

If after 5 days you are still in a lot of pain, or you are worried, please feel free to call me.

Follow up treatments...

A second treatment is recommended, and needs to be between 7 and 10 days after the initial treatment. Observing the above as much as possible will help Bowen to be effective.

I hope you enjoyed your Bowen treatment and will find it beneficial.
